churches schools and guns. a provocative name for a provocative album of techno from one of the genres most consistently intriguing producers, lucy. this, his second solo album, pushes forward from his debut full-length, 2011s wordplay for working bees, and firmly establishes him in a league of his own.

bombero y chica is the quality electronica/tech duo from thessaloniki, greece created by mr.lookman and despoina terzidou. theyve started working together since 2009 and they have managed to release two electronica tracks for the radio lunatica compilations (released by v.i.m.records)

for over 12 months thomas feriero aka avatism, our friend and label partner, has been staying at home and working on his album. he moved to berlin to work on it and now sadly (for us) yet (gladly) for him he is moving back to milan. poof! just like that. so what did this year entail exactly? well for some of us not much. we got to see him in his studio comfy pants a couple of times (he wears slippers) we heard his studio woes, ate pasta with him, drank beers and of course got to hear his album at every juncture. while this self-imposed exile may have been a little worrisome the result is fortunately spectacular. adamant is a glimpse into how a city shapes a life and how intrinsically life then shapes music.

with a self-proclaimed goal to showcase newcomers as well as established artists, melodymathics hands out their second punch with a killer track by detroit veteran gari romalis. gari is at the forefront of the detroit techno scene, working close with terrence parker, mike banks, cliff thomas and labels such as tresor, transmat, soma and many more. his productions clearly show that his 30 years experience djing made him realize what works on the dancefloor. the web on melodymathics ltd.002 is a sublime example of soulful keys combined with funky rhythm, resulting in the ultimate dj tool.

gacha is a young artist originally from georgia, now operating in berlin, this second ep for apollo records is an excellent six tracker that fits the apollo chillout manifesto perfectly. his music is a cinematic, glacial mix of beautiful melodies, treated guitars and tender drum programming, and two tracks on this release see him working in tandem with natalie beridze who adds her ethereal vocals for standout tracks *saysea* and *atlas*. elsewhere on the ep gacha continues the form of his last ep, working his influences from classic electronica to garage into his trademark deep and atmospheric sound.

robosonic has been a pivotal part of off recordings roster, their releases being highly expected every time and usually meaning instant dancefloor melting magic. with a hip hop and techno background and adding many frequent flyer miles with worldwide gig schedule, the pair shows no sign of stopping. this time is no exception, cord and sacha get back in their creative roll of sample wizardry to provide two mouth watering jams. they once again prove their love for organic sounds and reivindicate the use of the turntable as an instrument, adding that old-school vibe to their trademark beats. macho madness is quite a trip, sweet rhodes over a bouncy bassline, great sample work adding guitars and an insane speech. as always, breakdowns are intense and its impossible not to dance to the groove!for the second track, robosonic joins another off family team, mat.joe and together they go deep into their hip hop influences again working the samples as only they could, a little disco flavor, a driving bass...all the ingredients are there for another instant classic and a respectful shout out to detroit producer legend j dilla, who left the game too early. r.i.p!

working together in person has been an important point in cavaans collaborations lately - much preferring the human interaction and local landscapes over the soulless exchange of sound files over the internet. with this point taken care of, the two cavaan guys struck out in a berlin, heidelberg and venice studio. while the awesomeness of the cities kept the team quiet the landscape nonetheless teamed with sounds.

valcrond video, the label of brooklyn-based visual artist and producer luke wyatt presents its very first vinyl issue in the shape of two new tracks from torn hawk, one of wyatts aliases. first coming to the fore in a musical sense with a set of distressed guitar and asphalt beat attacks on the lies white label series, torn hawk has been closely associated with ron morellis label ever since with wyatt subsequently working with karen gwyer, secret circuit and willie burns. distancing himself a bit from the grime and grit some associate with his productions, the two new tracks have more in common with the more expansively voiced compositions on emotional response release teen hawk, or the cinematic melancholy of the untitled ep he released under the alias lossmaker. clearly wyatt is building towards housing all his musical instincts under one roof.

this year sees dj uchikawa celebrate 30 years in music. in that time he has been a driving force in japan for quality soulful music from jazz through to techno, tirelessly working to push, promote and support the scene.finally, earth song sees uchis original groove laced with a killer guitar workout from hideki ikeuchi, completing the package.

after remixing chupacabras the bigger man for us already in 2006 the oslo label mastermind and our dear friend federico molinari is now releasing his first solo single for our label. federico has been constantly upgrading his studio over the last two years and by this of course also has gained even better production skills. combining modular sounds and lots of effects with his own very well structured and characteristic rhythms can be described described as his new way working. we think that he is doing great and truly hope that you like his stuff as much as we do

especial is delighted to welcome baris to the roster. known for his edit series of obscure turkish psychedelic, rock and disco, here he takes the producers chair to present *200*. working with musicians and singers to create a completely original production. the songs message for equality (of the sexes) highlights the bigotry and backward political and religious boundaries his country faces and acts as a siren to the current troubles.

hayat zor is a beautiful blend of rave-nostalgia, 80s electro-pop and italo, all shot through with a melancholic, wistful air. working with analog synths, vintage drum machines, live instrumentation, and the help of a few friends and collaborators along the way. encompassing four original productions, hayat zor is a collection on which emotional resonance and technical expertise sit side by side. the vinyl comes with download code for the full ep, including 2 remixes by gavin russom and petrels.

you dont meet many people that smile as much behind the decks as tom hades, the ever-jovial belgian producer and dj. a man who truly loves his chosen profession, he has been steadily climbing up the international ranks of the techno cognoscenti for many years now. this is the result of his dedication and hard work, playing to many thousands of people worldwide every weekend, and a great discography, with releases on the worlds biggest labels.
recently, he has been secretly working on a solo project in his studio, quietly creating a concise body of solo work, patiently honing his creations to his own exacting standards of perfection. now the time has come to let the world know about *the missing touch*, his debut solo artist album, set for release on his own rhythm converted label.

optimo trax is an offshoot label of optimo music for tracks aimed at djs/dancefloors. yes, we know there are too many record labels already, but we felt an overriding desire to start another one as so much music that didnt seem quite right for optimo music (i.e. music that was specifically designed for dancing) kept coming our way. like the parent label, optimo trax will release music by new artists and excavate forgotten classics. luma is a project by dave clark from glasgow. dave had his first release as a member of state of flux in 1993 on t&b vinyl, the label twitch ran with his dj partner of that era, brainstorm. twitch and dave have continued to work together in various ways ever since. he has released records as truffle club, and as big ned on optimo music as well as working with twitch from 2005 - 2010 remixing a plethora of artists under the optimo (espacio) moniker before fatherhood necessitated him focusing on changing nappies rather than programming synths. dave has also recorded under various aliases for r&s, numbers, stuffrecords, dissident and wireblock. the twentieth anniversary of that first release seemed a fitting date for dave to unleash his monster new club music alter ego, luma on optimo trax. twitch thinks dave is the best producer in scotland and endlessly weeps into his gin and tonics about how unprolific dave is, so was ecstatic when the 4 killer tracks were delivered that make up this third optimo trax ep. these have been thoroughly road tested over the last few months at gigs around the world.

heiko laux debuts on ovum with canis major part 1 & 2 berlin based producer heiko laux has been steadily releasing quality music via his kanzelramt label for the best part of twenty years now. here he steps away from the reigns to make his debut on josh winks ovum imprint, working with past-time collaborator diego hostettler to produce this astounding techno two-tracker.

brian leeds produces electronic music under the name huerco s. his debut album for software is titled colonial patterns. on colonial patterns, leeds treats his kansas city region as a universe worthy of its own electronic music. to that end, leeds deconstructs midwestern techno and house tropes. the pieces are corrugated, rough, and decompositional. working cheaply, leeds conscientiously uses low-end software, synths and cassettes so as to subvert the gloss of so much urban dance music, giving tracks an impressionistic, emotive feel. the result is uniquely midwestern: there is an expansiveness to each piece that suits the open space and the storied past of its inhabitants.

rondenion is a japanese dj and producer. his link with music started working as a recording artist in the late 90s. under the name hirofumi goto, his released his debut ep *ameria*. it drew attention for its dark atmosphere, and was played by international figures of the electronic scene such as derrick may. he changed his name to rondenion as a tribute to chicago and detroit. not so long later, he released his *love bound ep* on the respected rush hour records. it reached the top sales chart position on the rushhour store, and rondenion began to make himself known within the european scene. in 2012, he co-founded ragrange symphony, alongside no milk and kez ym. kicks kicks is a young graphist, dj and producer based in france. his passion for skateboarding lead him to discover all the 90s deep house/garage scene such as kerry chandler through skateboard videotapes. his debut set happened in bordeaux a few years ago alongside nicholas & larcier. he is an analog freak and started producing his first tracks in 2013 which will finally be out on cracki records.

growing up in the deep south of germany with multi ethnic friends and big interest in many different music genres of the world, borrowed identity built his wide knowledge in music. this variety in his musical taste is also the reason why he is working under different aliases producing a big variety of sound from ambient to house to experimental music and everything inbetween.

later on as dusky, the british duo of alfie granger-howell and nick harriman have asserted their position amongst the top producers working in electronic music right now after releases on anjunadeep, naked naked, aus, and its sister label simple.

mirko loko, has always worn his detroit musical influences on his sleeve, counting pioneer carl craig as his mentor, and having worked with the likes of derrick may and stacey pullen in the studio. and on daybreak, mirko fully indulges in the one genre that seems never to get tarnished, the mechanical and industrial beats working off the deep and soulful strings and melancholic pads, a true hallmark of the classic sounds of the motor city

the a-side, brooklyn-based zebra katzs sex sellz, is the first vinyl release by the blog-hyped rapper, equipped with a label head teeths 150bpm remix. the aa-side is a 120-bpm electro-influenced dubby techno song by paris french fries. a quirky 12 inch, with a avantgarde rap song, a banger remix and a solid dancefloor track, quirky but working.

the track 303/303/303/606/606 is heavy, slow grooving techno that brings the listener back to the dark emptiness of the plastikman consumed era. on the b-side the tm404 project is allowed elevated to new levels. with a yamaha sy-1 and a yamaha tg33 entering the machine park, tm404 for the first time, breaks his roland oath and opens up the project to a future of new po ssibilit ies. during the development of the svans ep this track actually went under the working title the summer hit. take a listen to the fine bassline, airy production and the selected ambient works-inspired harmonies and sounds and you will know why. welcome to over 12 minutes of pure old school bliss.

decoy07 takes a deeper turn with the third act ep. miss sunshine (kms, monocline, tictactoe) has been working flawlessly in the studio for the past six years and this ep is no exception. third act is a heavy workout of riding bells and an old-school synth line which grooves its way through percussion builds and changes. intimidate is deeper and darker with a chugging groove and twisting effects growing into a more graceful melody. ground loop captures miss sunshines more ambivalent mood with a haunting groove that is perfect for those basement techno moments. markus suckut (figure, sckt)supplies the remix with his interpretation of ground loop, taking it more minimal and stripped back but maintaining the groove in his own familiar style.

without a label since 1978, joe cocker signed to island records in 1981.chris blackwell (head of island) took him to the bahamas, where he recorded a 12 inch single, >sweet little woman / look what you ve done<, and continued working on a full length album: sheffield steel. the result was a successful album, which put cockers name back on the map.

for those who know the story of the bridge wars, there is some irony found in the fact that scott la rock, representing the south bronx, was born in queens, though he did relocate to the south bronx at a very young age. after graduating high school la rock spent four years in vermont at castleton college where he earned varsity letters in basketball, but more importantly for the world of hip hop he became more and more enamored with music. on graduation he returned to new york and began working as a dj and as a social worker at the franklin armory mens shelter in the bronx. it was at the shelter that scott met kris parker and the duo formed boogie down productions. the rest, as they say, is history. roughly a year after the tragic shooting death of boogie down productions founder, dj and producer scott la rock b boy records and krs-one issued this special remix album, a man and his music (remixes from around the world). billed as a limited edition collectors classic the project was released in a limited run – briefly available in the 90s – and now after years of being unavailable reappears as a tribute to one of the genres early pioneers.
